For New Believers
First of all, we are all excited about the decision you've made. More importantly,
God is excited! And now it's His desire that you get to know Him better. Yes,
God wants to have a growing and vibrant personal relationship with all who come to Him through His Son,
Jesus Christ.
Next Steps In Growing Your Faith
Attend worship services like the ones at
New Day, regularly. When you come, you will receive solid teaching that will help you know what
God is like, what He wants to do in your life, and what His purpose is for your life.
Talk to
God every day. Tell Him how you are feeling; what questions you need answers to; what your hurts and needs are; and ask Him for wisdom and direction for decisions you need to make at home or at work.
God loves to listen to and answer the prayers of His children. And don't worry, you'll begin to sense and notice those answers coming.
God is very personable and communicative, and you'll experience that as you begin to "dial in" on how He speaks to us.
Hang out with other Christians. Being with other followers of Jesus on a regular basis encourages us to stay strong in the decision we've made to live for
God. Being with other Christians also gives us opportunities to ask questions about
God that those who have known Him longer will likely be able to answer. You will find this to be a great help in your efforts to grow closer with
God.
Read a little bit from
God's book -
The Bible - everyday. The
Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek, and since most of us do not know those languages, we need to read from an English translation. There are many to choose from! We suggest one of the following translations:
- New American Standard
- New International Version
- New Living Translation
Each of these translations are excellent and easy to read. And you can purchase them at any Christian bookstore. There is one in Chino off of Central Ave. on Philadelphia Ave. ("Family Christian Bookstore") or Berean Christian Bookstore in Riverside.
When you get your
Bible, look in the front for the Table of Contents. Then under the heading called "The New Testament" look for the page number for the book of John. It will be the fourth book listed under New Testament.
We suggest that you read the book of John first because it's all about the life of Jesus. And this will definitely help you to get to know
God and his Son better.
Make plans to be baptized as soon as possible. Jesus directs all who become His followers to be baptized in His name. We understand that you may not be very familiar with what baptism is all about or what it means, so at New Day we've designed a brochure that will answer many of the questions that people ask about it. There are copies of this brochure at our Welcome tent on Sundays. Please feel free to take a copy. We also have a message on CD that goes into great detail about baptism. It can be purchased any Sunday through our CD ministry.
Sign-up to take special spiritual growth classes. On a regular basis, New Day offers special 1-4 week classes that are designed to help you grow in your relationship with
God. One of those classes is called "Network". This is a two-part course that teaches you about (and helps you discover) the spiritual gifts that
God gives to each of His people. Knowing which spiritual gifts
God has given to you will help you "dial in" to the kinds of ministries that
God has equipped you to serve Him best.
Other courses that teach on the "Basics of the Christian Faith", or that teach on different topics of interest, are also offered on a regular basis. All such classes are advertised weeks in advance so that you can take advantage of them.
Join a Small Group. At
New Day we have a number of ongoing small Bible study groups that meet on different nights of the week (usually in a member's home). Those who become part of such a group tend to spiritually grow in leaps and bounds. Studying a book of the
Bible, or a
Bible topic, with other growing Christians not only accelerates spiritual growth, but it's fun, and great new friendships are often developed.
And remember that we, as Christian brothers and sisters, are here for you and that we will do all that is humanly possible to help meet your needs and answer your questions. So please, don't be afraid or embarrassed to come up and ask. We are here to help you grow stronger in your faith and we are all excited to see how
God is going to lead and grow you in your relationship with Him.
